REVIEW: Secret Avengers #32

Written By: Rick Remender

Art By: Matteo Scalera

Price: $3.99

With Black Widow now becoming under the control of The Abyss the odds are in the favour of Taskmaster and his mystical controlling helmet. Meanwhile Venom has to fight Valkyrie and he’s not doing too good a job at that.

Continuing from the last issue Venom and Ant-Man’s relationship is the standout factor but more importantly Eric himself is actually pretty funny.

You can tell which characters Remender favourites over others. Throughout the whole roster the only ones that truly do anything are Venom (he wrote about 22 issues of him so it’s no big surprise), Valkyrie and Ant-Man. Yeah people like Hawkeye as leader is involved but not to the degree as the others. However writing a team book isn’t exactly simple task but he is able to while having a focus on some characters more than others it doesn’t seem too off putting since the story itself manages to compensate for why they’re all not present.

I don’t know what it quite is about the Flash/Valkyrie relationship but I totally dig it. The one he had with Betty before that ended when she found out he was Venom or the one he’s sort of having at the moment with Kathy Kieran. So the fact that they hooked up makes Flash so much more awesome, you can’t do much better than a God now can you?

With as much praise as I have given to the story of the arc I again can’t ignore the work of Scalera. Considering the “infection” that The Abyss is spreading and the dark and dreary nature of the city full of criminals that inhabit it his dark style matches up well with the tone. That being said Black Widow’s cleavage is still ridiculous.
